The tragedy of the commons is an oft spoken point made by many commentating on the environment. Just wanted to enforce the notion that the commons, and the management of shared resources (and systems) on the small level has actually been succesful for thousands of years. Our centralized resource development model is the cause of much of our problems, as well as the lack of collaboration and partnership on the local level. Resources are always managed better by local actors managing smaller systems (invariably micro farms have a higher output than large farms etc)
