A recently awarded grant from the Keck Foundation will fund a large multi-disciplinary study of the genetic determinants of lifespan in groups of related animals (e.g., dogs, primates, rodents and birds); within each group, species share similar body plans but have dramatically different life expectancies. How has natural selection solved the problem of aging across evolutionary time?
