John Langford: Need for a Unifying Prediction Science

Langford zeroes in on some of the core disparate fields of prediction studies and argues for the need to unify/centralize these programs. To my mind, it's clear that these areas are converging and that at the center lies a new systems framework for prediction. Iow, Langford's useful list jives with this l'il ole brain o' mine: "One view of machine learning is that it’s about how to program computers to predict well. This suggests a broader research program centered around the more pervasive goal of simply predicting well. There are many distinct strands of this broader research program which are only partially unified. Here are the ones that I know of:"
